Twenty-Five Amazing Things You Can Enjoy During Spring

Say goodbye to winter and hello to warmer weather with these twenty-five great spring things

While it may still be a bit cold where you are, and sure, here in Ontario they are saying we should expect 10 cm of snow on Thursday, it is actually spring. I know, I know, how can it really be spring if it's still so scold? Well, the groundhog saw his shadow and the official first day of spring was just this weekend! So, it's about time we started dreaming of warmer weather and all the joy that comes along with it. Here are twenty-five amazing things to get excited about this season:

1. BBQ-ing makes a comeback. There's no dinner ritual quite as satisfying as firing up the BBQ and eating outside again.

2. Eating ice cream at virtually any time (and any place) becomes acceptable again.

3. The backyard is a thing again. Bubble blowing, kite flying, flower picking, fort-making... the free-est, most joyful activities happen in the backyard in spring.

4. The return of outdoor playdates. Being outside is just so much easier in spring. Outdoor picnics, park hangs and bike rides keep everyone occupied and happy.

5. Seeing the transient but magical cherry blossoms.

6. New green life and baby animals. Now is the time to hit a local farm for a daytrip if it's possible.

7. Waking up to birds chirping in the morning.

8. Farmers markets and spring produce. Fresh herbs, rhubarb, asparagus = salad is awesome again.

9. Easter candy. Peep dioramas will never cease to amaze us.

10. The smell of the air after spring rain.

11. Funky umbrellas. The best spring accessory.

12. Opening the windows and leaving them open.

13. Cleaning out your closet. No. Better. Feeling.

14. Bringing out the patio furniture. And hanging out on it.

15. Longer days, brighter mornings. It's easy to forget how much that changes your outlook.

16. The garden comes to life again. And you should get into it with your kid. See Tara Nolan, editor of Canadian Gardening Magazine's advice on how to do it.

17. Retiring the snowsuit. Put it in the basement. Lock it away. Never to be seen again. Until next winter. So long, morning snowsuit-suit up horrors.

18. Planning a summer vacation. Half of the fun is planning the journey right?

19. Mother's day. May 15th is your day!

20. Foraging for food. Urbanites caught into this trend in past few years, and it's not just gourmet chiefs and natural health enthusiasts who are into it—families are into it too. Check out Parentmaps' pointers.

21. Wildflowers are sprouting up all around. Picking them, pressing them, arranging them, making garlands out of them - what's not to love about wildflowers?

22. Sunshine = vitamin D. Sunlight triggers your body to produce the happy vitamin! Which keeps your bones strong and keeps your mood up.

23. You can open your windows. Tear open the shutters and throw up the sash, we say!

24. Rummaging around garage sales on weekends.

25. Whatever point in your life you're at, spring signals time for a fresh start. Now, it's out with the old, in with the new, focusing on what's ahead, regardless of what's behind. It's a time when motivation comes easy.

There's a lot to celebrate right about now.
