A New Prototype Could Make Booster Seats Much Easier

The mifold is the newest innovation in car safety could simplify family trips and carpools

A new innovation in booster seats is changing the way kids and families will travel.

The mifold Grab-and-Go Booster Seat does the exact opposite of a booster seat, but is just as safe and more efficient. Regular booster seats boost up children to adult heights so that seatbelts will fit properly. Using attached clips, the mifold pulls the seatbelt down so it fits across a child’s hips and collarbone the way it would for an adult.

The mifold is 10 times smaller than a booster seat and folds in half, so that it is similar in size and shape to an iPad. The mifold weighs less than two pounds and is small enough to transport in backpacks and purses, eliminating the hassle of transporting bulky booster seats and the safety risks of travelling without one.

Inventor Jon Sumroy says that the “mifold is the most advanced, compact and portable booster seat in the world.”

When his family, including four young children, lived in America, Sumroy found that they often had to carpool or travel in taxis without booster seats. Seeing the need for a booster seat that would be smaller and more portable than the traditional booster seat, Sumroy came up with the idea for the mifold. For the past three years, the team has been developing and testing prototypes across the globe.

The mifold is suitable for kids from ages four to 12, and is small enough that three can fit in the backseat of even the smallest cars. The mifold comes in five colours including grey, pink and blue and is adjustable to three different sizes so it will grow with your child. The mifold is even dishwasher safe, so any spills or accidents can easily be cleaned up.

The mifold is currently available for order on Indiegogo and will be shipped out in the first quarter of 2016.
