Parents Be Aware: Possible Tampering Of Infant Formula

Canadian Food Inspection Agency warns consumers to double-check their infant formula

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CIFA) is warning parents and caregivers about possible tampering or product substitution in infant formulas.

Information on the CFIA’s website states that while the containers may be intact, the inside tamper-proof seal may be broken and the product inside may be substituted for a different brand or variety or tampered in another way.

The warning was sent out nationally on June 2 and does not specify a brand or type of infant formula.

Incidents like this happen occasionally when a consumer returns an altered product and is not typically a manufacturing error.

So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection to this warning and the CFIA is urging consumers to carefully examine both the container and the inside seal for any indications of tampering. The security-seal should be intact and consumers should try to verify the product inside has not been substituted. Any products believed to be tampered or altered should not be consumed or used.
