Even Kate Middleton, The Duchess Of Cambridge, Is Struggling With Motherhood

The royal mom to Prince George and Princess Charlotte opened up about her experiences during a speech in London.

She may be the epitome of style, class, and general togetherness. But Kate Middleton is harbouring a not-so-secret secret about motherhood.

It's H-A-R-D.

Despite the incredible rollercoaster that is being a parent, it's not always a walk in the park, and that holds true even if you’re a duchess with a great support system.

Kate opened up about her own experiences as a mother while introducing the Out of the Blue documentary film series, which provides a deeper look into mental health during the early years of parenthood.

"Personally, becoming a mother has been such a rewarding and wonderful experience. However, at times it has also been a huge challenge—even for me who has support at home that most mothers do not," confessed Kate.

"Nothing can really prepare you for the sheer overwhelming experience of what it means to become a mother," she said. "It is full of complex emotions of joy, exhaustion, love and worry, all mixed together. Your fundamental identity changes overnight. You go from thinking of yourself as primarily an individual to suddenly being a mother, first and foremost."

It's not the first time we've noticed that Kate has had her hands full. Her cheeky son, Prince George, has been keenly observed dishing out a slice of royal sass all over the world in his three short years. Kate married Prince William back in 2011 and the couple has three-year-old George, and one-year-old Charlotte, who was born in 2015.

Kate went on to say that there's no right or wrong way to parent, and that we all just have to figure it out ourselves.

"You just have to make it up and do the very best you can to care for your family," Kate admitted. "For many mothers, myself included, this can, at times lead to lack of confidence and feelings of ignorance," she continued. "Sadly, for some mothers, this experience can be made so much harder due to challenges with their own mental health."

Providing that steady role in the family can be difficult for most mothers, especially since you’ve got to figure it out as you go along and just do the best you can to care for your loved ones. This becomes especially hard for mothers who are dealing with mental health issues. Kate points out that this, “should not be seen as a sign of weakness. Mothers take on an overwhelming responsibility of caring for their families. Their role is vital in providing unconditional love, care, and support at home, particularly in the early years of a child’s development. We therefore should do everything we can to support and value their hard work.”

If you feel like you're alone in this journey of motherhood, remember that the Duchess of Cambridge is going through a similar experience, even she has hard days, and it’s okay to need and ask for help. Having a strong support system can make a huge difference. Try reaching out to friends or family if you need a break or are feeling overwhelmed.

And keep being awesome, moms!
