Kim Kardashian And Kanye Hire A Surrogate For Baby #3
Everything comes in threes, right? Including, it would seem, baby and pregnancy announcements from some of Hollywood’s most iconic power couples. First, George and Amal welcomed twins, Ella and Alexander earlier this month, then Beyoncé and Jay Z welcomed their twins over the weekend, and now TMZ has learned that Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West have hired a surrogate to carry baby number three. (The couple are already parents to North, age four years, and Saint, age 18 months.)
TMZ is reporting that the surrogate will be paid $45,000 (plus bonuses if there are multiples and compensation for lost reproductive organs) to carry the star’s baby.
Kim has been very open in the past about her health and difficult pregnancies. During her two previous pregnancies, the star suffered from preeclampsia and placenta accreta (when the placenta does not detach during delivery). Placenta accreta (also known as placenta increta or placenta percreta, depending on how deeply the placenta attaches itself to the uterus) affects approximately 1 in 2,500 pregnancies and is considered rare. Kim described it as “the most painful experience of her life.”
The star hinted at her plans in a March episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, saying that, “I’m going to try and have one more baby, I want my kids to have siblings but the doctors don’t think it’s safe for me.”
In late May, Kim revealed via KUWTK that she planned to undergo a corrective surgery on her uterus in the hopes of being able to carry a third pregnancy. Even the star herself didn’t sound overly optimistic about the procedure, saying that, “I've gone through so much with really bad deliveries that the doctors don't feel like it's safe for me to conceive again myself. This surgery is really the one last thing I can try."
It’s not currently known whether Kim had the surgery, and it was unsuccessful, or if Kim and Kanye opted out of the procedure in favour of surrogacy. However, in a different May episode of the show, family matriarch Kris (mother of Kim) offered to be Kim’s surrogate, as did Kim’s sister Kourtney. It would seem Kim and Kanye ultimately decided to forgo having a family member carry the baby and went with a surrogacy service.
