Healthy No-Prep Snacks For New Moms

Sometimes healthy food choices seem to take a lot more work, but not these no-prep snacks

You are a new mom. Your time is precious because, let’s be honest, there isn’t that much of it!

It’s easy for things like healthy eating to fall by the wayside, especially when it comes to snacking. So here’s what you do—find the easy, most nutrient packed, no preparation needed healthy snacks and stick to those.

We’re talking throw it in your bag and go snacks that will give you enough energy to ward of those hangry feelings and keep on with your day and also won’t leave you wanting a chocolate bar ten minutes later.

Trail Mix

Best thing about trail mix is that if you hit up your favourite bulk food store, you can make your own mix and know exactly what’s going into it. Think lots of protein packed nuts and dried fruit. Want to avoid the sugar crash? Skip the chocolate and candied fruits.


Low in calories but with the crunch you’re craving, pretzels are super easy to store and can even be purchased in single serving bags at most grocery stores.

Nut Butters

Some people might think it’s a crazy idea, but a spoonful of natural peanut or almond is a great snack that will give you the perfect boost of energy and keep you full longer. Almonds are known to help milk production, so if you are breastfeeding, they are a great choice.

Baby Carrots

These tiny treats are a great choice for on the go. Throw some into a Ziploc bag or a Tupperware and you’re ready to go. Despite their name, baby carrots are super filling and rich in dietary fibre.

Granola Bar

Probably one of the most common on-the-go snacks is the granola bar. And this can be a pretty great option, as long as you are looking at the label. Pick up granola bars that are low in sugar and high in fibre and protein; this will help you to avoid crashing and feeling hungry right away.


Everyone knows how great bananas are for you—they are full of potassium, can naturally reduce heartburn and they give you the natural sugars you need to fuel you for the day. Big time bonus? They come with their very own handy, disposable carrying case. Also think about apples and oranges!


Think protein, healthy fats and vitamin E! Nuts are a great snack if you stick to raw, unsalted picks. Our favourites include almonds, pecans, walnuts and, if you’re looking for a challenge, pistachios. Remember to also keep portion sizes in mind—nuts are great, but they are fatty so you don’t want to eat a whole bag in one sitting.
