Family Fun Is Waiting For You At Centreville!

Centreville is the perfect place for a family day out, summer fun for the whole family

Going to Centreville has long been an honoured summer tradition in my family. I have so many fond memories of my mom packing up the old Coleman cooler with treats and heading to the ferry docks for a day at the island. I was never much a fan of big roller coasters, so Centreville has always my favourite summertime destination.

Nostalgia

Once I became a mom, I was so excited to share those experiences with my kids. Centreville is truly the one place that has stood the test of time. Many of the rides from when I was a child still stand (and don’t look like they’ve aged). It’s like I can truly share a piece of my childhood with my girls.  But nostalgia aside, there are many more reasons why I keep going back to Centreville.

Affordable Fun

With no admission at the door, it’s really a choose-your-own-adventure kind of amusement park. When my daughter was a toddler my husband and I would buy a sleeve of tickets and take her on a few rides until she got tired. Now, as she is getting older we opt for the All-Day-Ride pass [http://centreisland.ca/centreville.html] and she hops on and off of all the rides at her leisure.  With no general admission and the ability to bring your own food, it really is the most affordable day of fun in Toronto for families.

Easy to Navigate

This summer I’m on maternity leave with my second daughter and I’ve already been twice and have plans to go back later in the summer. For my first visit of the year I went with a group of friends and their little ones. My newborn was only three-weeks-old and I thought I might be a little nuts for going with such a young baby, but it was a breeze. With my stroller packed to the brim, getting on and off the ferry was easy and I walked around the park with two kids no problem. When my older daughter needed me close, I put the baby in the carrier and parked the stroller. It was such a success I went back three weeks later with a different group of friends.

Fun for Every Age

With something for everyone, Centreville caters well to the under-12 set. My 10-year-old nephew loves the thrill of Ferris wheel and Scrambler, while my three-year-old opts for Twirling Teacups and Antique Carousel. They both love the Centreville Train and the Rockin’ Ferry, as well as visiting the animals at Far Enough Farm. My personal fave is still the Swan Ride (see picture above circa 1984 of my mom, sister and I enjoying the view from the Swans – I may or may not be wearing a Michael Jackson Thriller shirt).

After a day of picnicking and rides, we always end each visit with stop at the ice cream shop for a cone. The promise of ice cream is the only way we can get the kids to get back on the ferry to go home. But the great news is, we’ll always be coming back year after year.
