Preparing to be a new mother can be quite daunting. There are so many things to consider, there is so much to learn, and there are so many things that you need to buy!
Everyone suggests different products to you and it can be hard to remember everything that you need to get.
What you don’t want is to come home with your baby and realize that you forgot to buy something really important. We have made things easier for you by putting together this shopping list for first-time moms.
It will tell you what you need for your newborn without the hassle of you having to walk all around the shops for inspiration.
Clothing
Let’s start by looking at the clothing that you are going to need. As soon as your baby is born, you will need to dress them, and you will soon realize that outfit changes happen quite regularly due to accidents!
Family members and friends will likely buy you lots of clothing before the baby is even born, but follow this checklist to make sure that you have everything that you need:
Bodysuits
You are going to need at least 10 bodysuits so you always have a clean one to use. This Unisex Baby Body Suit 5 Pack is an ideal choice as the colors are neutral and would work for a boy or a girl. You can also choose plain white if you prefer, or mix and match.
Rompers
Rompers are another must-have when it comes to baby clothes, and you need plenty so you always have one to hand – we recommend 10. These Unisex Newborn Rompers come in different colors so you can mix and match them for various outfits.
Swaddles
Swaddling your baby will comfort them and make them feel safe. This Set Of 3 Unisex Baby Swaddle Blankets will be all that you need to begin with.
Pants
You will need between 3 and 5 pairs of pants for your baby. This Set Of 3 Unisex Newborn Pants is adorable and soft, and it comes in different color combinations.
Sleepers
Your baby will also need something to sleep in, and is there anything sweeter than a newborn sleeper suit? This Set Of 3 Closed Foot Unisex Sleepers comes in newborn size and would be perfect, but you need at least 7 sleepers overall.
Hooded Towel
You will be surprised at how useful a hooded towel can be when your baby has finished their bath. This Hooded Towel has an adorable elephant design and comes with 5 soft wash clothes which are perfect for gently washing your baby.
These are the main items of clothing you will need but don’t forget the little things like socks, t-shirts, and sun hats/winter hats depending on what time of year your baby is born.
Bibs And Burp Cloths
Newborn babies will either be breastfeeding or drinking formula or breast milk from the bottle.
Either way, they will dribble a lot! Using a bib will help to keep their clothes clean. These Organic Cotton Muslin Bibs come in a set of five bright colors and are perfect for feeding time.
You will also need a burp cloth for when you are winding your baby in case they are sick. These Ultra Absorbent Burb Cloths are unisex and are nice and soft on your baby’s face.
The Nursery
Before you bring your baby home you need to set up the nursery. Here are the main things that you will need:
Crib/Bassinet
Your baby needs somewhere to sleep. Some parents like to use a traditional crib, but others prefer products like this Co-Sleeping Bassinet as it makes it much easier to check on your newborn while they are sleeping.
Make sure you check that the crib or bassinet you choose comes with a mattress and that you buy fitted sheets that are the right size.
Changing Table
One thing you will be doing a lot of as a new mom is changing nappies, and a changing table will make it much easier for you. This Portable Waterproof Changing Table is perfect as there is plenty of storage space.
Clothes Storage
All of those adorable clothes that we mentioned earlier need to be kept somewhere. This Storage Dresser has fabric pull-out drawers and is a very affordable option.
Nursery Chair
You will need a chair in the nursery so you have somewhere to sit and feed the baby, and somewhere to rock them to sleep. We love this Baby Relax Double Rocker which is modern and stylish yet comfortable.
Baby Monitor
This is one of the most important things you will buy as it will keep your baby safe. This Wireless Baby Monitor has a live video feed of your baby that you can watch from another room, as well as a temperature monitor.
Night Light
A night light is soothing and also practical. This Hatch Baby Night Light also has a sound machine so that you can play white noise or soothing sounds to help get your baby to sleep.
There might be some additional items that you want to include in your nursery like a diaper bin, a laundry basket, and a hanging mobile to help your baby get to sleep.
Transport
When you have a newborn baby, you can still get out and socialize, but you need to be able to transport your baby.
You could get a stroller and a car seat, or you could get a travel system that has both included! This Modular Travel System has everything you need to take your newborn baby out and about with you.
Summary
Hopefully, this list will help you to prepare for becoming a new mother. Don’t forget to stock up on plenty of diapers!
