The Victoria Day long weekend marks the unofficial start to summer. Not sure what to do or where to celebrate? Whether they are close to home or a road trip away, we've rounded up some great spots to have some long weekend fun all across Canada.

GO Fest, Victoria, BC

Celebrate Victoria Day while being active in Whistler at Go Fest from May 16 to 19. From mountain biking to ultimate Frisbee to skiing, spend the long weekend celebrating the great outdoors. In addition to active pursuits there will be concerts, art and film to keep you busy.

Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend, Clarington, Ont.

If you and your family are feeling a need for speed this Victoria Day long weekend, head straight for Clarington, Ontario where you can check out some serious race car action. Kids under 12 can attend free and there will be a fireworks display on Sunday May 18.

Niagara Falls fireworks

What better place to watch a fireworks display than over spectacular Niagara Falls? Canada’s longest running fireworks series kicks off with a bang on Victoria Day in Queen Victoria Park. Come by at 8p.m. to take in a free concert.

Victoria Day at Fort York, Toronto, Ont.

Combine your long weekend celebrations with a history lesson by spending Victoria Day at Fort York in Toronto. Watch a cooking demonstration of 19th century cooking techniques, participate in soldier’s drills and take a guided tour through the fort among other activities.

Paddlefest, St. Andrews, N.B

Participate in some fun outdoor activities like canoeing, kayaking, hiking and biking during the day at this long weekend festival, while listening to some great live music at various venues in the evening. Most events require you bring your own boat, but some rentals will be available so call ahead to find out for sure.

Victoria Day Festival, Ottawa, Ont.

Head to the nation’s capital to celebrate Victoria Day with this free event in Ottawa. The festivities take place at Queen Juliana Park and include midway rides, a petting zoo, and food and drink concessions. The Tulip Festival is being held at neighbouring Commissioner’s Park, which is also worth a visit.

Upper Canada Village, Morrisburg, Ont.

Spend Victoria Day weekend at this 1860s village for another way to add a history lesson to your celebrations. At this unique event you can listen to historical patriotic speeches, check out some military manoeuvres, test your luck at the 1860s athletic games, and then enjoy some birthday cake.

Calaway Park, Calgary, Alta.

Kids and kids at heart will love spending the Victoria Day weekend in Calaway Park, western Canada’s largest outdoor amusement park. May 17 to 19 will be the grand opening weekend of the park and a fun way to celebrate Victoria Day.

Victoria Day parade, Victoria, BC

B.C.’s capital will be celebrating Victoria Day with a parade, the 116th of its kind and also the Victoria’s largest parade event. Pack a bag with blankets, snacks and sunscreen for the three hour parade featuring clowns, marching bands, floats and more.

Jubilee Queen Cruise, Toronto, Ont.

Trade dry land for a Victoria Day dinner cruise on Sunday May 18, or a family lunch cruise on Monday May 19. You’ll get to take in the sights of Toronto while having a relaxing celebratory lunch or dinner with family and friends.
