JetBlue Makes Flying With Babies A Breeze

The airline gives everyone a reason to smile every time a baby cries

Flying with a baby is at best an inconvenience and at worst an absolute nightmare for you and everyone else on the plane. Not only do you have to worry about a potentially crying baby—which is stressful enough on it’s own—but you’ve also got to field the annoyed glances from other passengers when your little one starts acting up.

No one wants to be at the centre of everyone’s misery on a flight, especially when people mostly just want to sleep. But as most parents know, sometimes there’s no stopping the tears when your small child is overtired and stuck on a plane.

This year for Mother’s Day, JetBlue and agency MullenLowe found a way to turn a negative into a positive. On a flight from JFK to Long Beach, the airline pulled a stunt called “FlyBabies” where any time a baby cried, the passengers would receive 25% discount off their flight. So, if the babies on board cried four times before landing, all passengers would receive a free round trip-ticket the next time they flew with JetBlue.

According to MullenLowe, 40 percent of U.S. adults say crying babies on airplanes annoy them. While the clever stunt pulled by JetBlue may not totally shift the general consensus on crying babies aboard planes, it’s a reminder that everything is about perspective; something seemingly straining could turn out to be not so bad after all, it may even get you a free flight.
