Kid-Friendly Summer Getaways In Canada

Explore your own backyard this summer with these amazing travel destinations for families

Bring the kids along for a fun summer vacation for both adults and children. From Rocky Mountain adventure to water parks, here are some top destinations to keep in mind.

Muskoka, ON

Take the kids up to cottage country at a resort or rent a cottage near a lake. Kids can spend their days at the beach, swimming or canoeing with their parents. Take in the scenic lake views and cottage lifestyle, and for “Christmas in July”, there’s a Santa’s Village close by in Bracebridge. With plenty of amenities and a vibrant nightlife, if a sitter is an option, parents can also enjoy a night out too!

Whistler, BC

While it might seem odd to visit a ski resort in the heat of summer, the mountains are great for young children (who aren’t proficient snow bunnies just yet!) From hiking trails to biking, Whistler Blackcomb offers day camps for children and mountain biking lessons. There’s also a Family Adventure Zone, complete with a daring alpine slide, bungee trampolines, mazes and bouncy castles for the little ones.

Montreal, QC

This cultural hub is full of amazing attractions for both adults and children. The botanical garden and insectarium is a lot of fun for kids, while the Old Town is a great history lesson and full of fine restaurants and ice cream shops. The newly-opened planetarium is also a must-see for kids who love science!

Niagara Falls, ON

The Niagara region is a great place for families, complete with fun attractions like the Butterfly Conservatory, the classic Maid of the Mist (now called the Hornblower) boat ride, and of course, the Falls themselves! Stay at Great Wolf Lodge to tire kids out for bedtime at the action-packed water park.

Dinosaur Provincial Park, AB

This provincial park located in the Badlands of Alberta is perfect for kids who love dinosaurs. Walk the same steps dinosaurs took and take in the scenic area. There are children’s programs where young paleontologists can go on fossil safaris; or, families can opt for a private dinosaur dig in search of dino remains. RV and tent camping is also available on site and nearby, along with the Royal Tyrrell Museum a couple hours away for even more dinosaurs!

Prince Edward Island

This destination is full of pristine sandy beaches, great golf courses for dad, and amazing seafood. Relax on the famous red sand beaches while kids have fun playing in the water, and make sure to stop by the house that inspired Anne of Green Gables.

Twillingate, N.L.

For both an incredible whale watching and iceberg adventure, this island town offers unforgettable boat tours. Kids will love watching puffins, seagulls, and the massive hunks of ice in the world’s iceberg capital. Bring your camera along for incredible pictures in Iceberg Alley, and the picturesque town, which has great hiking trails and seafood restaurants. The local berry wine is also a must try for adults!
