From attachment parenting to raising healthy kids, these new parenting books (all written by parents!) offer new ideas, plus some tried and true tips for raising children in the 21st century.

Bringing Up Bebe: One American Mother Discovers the Wisdom of French Parenting

In this wonderful parenting book author Pamela Druckerman examines the idea behind French parenting.  Druckerman makes observations on everything from the foods that French moms feed their children to the way they deal with conflicts between their children.  She also points out that these children seem to be well adjusted and more independent than their American counterparts.  Thankfully Druckerman took notes because it seems like the French moms didn’t think that they were doing anything out of the ordinary.

Outside the Box: Why Our Children Need Real Food, Not Food Products

You may find that this parenting book will shock you as much as it informs you.   When Canadian Journalist Jeannie Marshall moved to Italy she was excited about living in a culture with rich culinary tradition, after she had a baby, however she began to see how that culture was eroding.  She notes how Italian children are being fed the same sugary and preservative filled foods that American children eat.  The book tackles some real issues with the way we feed our children and outlines a way for us to get back to feeding our kids natural and healthier foods.

Beyond the Sling: A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way

That girl who was on the TV show Blossom wrote a book, luckily she got her PhD in neuroscience first.  After Mayim Bialik had her two children she did what all of us with kids do.  She started reading books and conversing with other parents.  What she found was that she did not necessarily agree with what she was reading and hearing about traditional child rearing.  Then Bialik turned to attachment parenting which she says felt more right to her.  Drawing from her background in neuroscience with her practice of attachment parenting Bialik lays out the basic principles of attachment parenting and how it can work for your family.

The Happiest Baby Guide to Great Sleep: Simple Solutions for Kids from Birth to 5 Years

Author Harvey Karp M.D. is well known for his simple and effective parenting techniques.  In this new book he explores how to change your children’s sleeping habits as early as the first few weeks of life.  Sleep deprivation can be a very serious issue and affect your health.  This book will give you the tools to help your child fall asleep and stay asleep for those first important years of their lives.

French Kids Eat Everything: How Our Family Moved to France, Cured Picky Eating, Banned Snacking, and Discovered 10 Simple Rules for Raising Happy, Healthy Eaters

They must really have it figured out in France.  While this book does share a few similarities with Bringing up BeBe it focuses on the healthy eating aspects of French families.  When author Karen Le Billon moved to her husband’s home town she came under the microscope for the way she was feeding her family.  She soon learned how to skip snack times and transform her family from picky eaters to adventurous ones.  When the family moves back to North America they are faced with the challenge of “eating French” in the United States, luckily there is a happy ending.  This book not only offers tips to fight certain problems with childhood obesity but also gives inspiration that you can do it just like Karen did.
