Baby Names From All Over The Map

Some of these baby names might not be in your backyard, but you can find them all in your atlas

It is not unheard of to look on a map for inspiration for your baby name. Brooklyn was a top twenty baby name for girls in Canada this year and Kingston for a boy was made famous by the lovely Gwen Stefani.

So what other baby names have been inspired by far off (or closer to home) lands?

Meaning “great, magnificent”, Austin has a very southwestern feel that matches perfectly with the Texas city of the same name. Love the name but want to add a bit of culture to it? Why not spell it Austen as a nod to Jane Austen.

A beautifully old-fashioned name, Florence means to flourish or prosper. Connected with the awe-inspiring Italian city of the same name, the name has been steadily climbing the charts but hasn’t been exceptionally popular since 1906 (we told you it was old-fashioned).

A quirky take on the more standard Everett, this name will have your little guy reaching unbelievable heights. The name isn’t on any Most Popular lists making this and original name that screams adventure.

A name that brings to mind tulips of every shade, Holland is a gorgeous geographical name that is 1 part elegant and 1 part cool. The origin is, of course, Dutch and the name means “wooded land”, perfect for any outdoorsy little girl.

A wonderful choice for a boy or a girl, this name is as hip as they ever-cool Colorado ski resort frequented by all the best celebrities. It’s a wonder one of them hasn’t snapped this name up yet!

One of the first and arguably one of the prettiest place names on record, India has long been a favourite of our friends over the pond. Chris Hemsworth and Sarah McLachlan recently named their daughters India. We love the built-in adorable nickname, Indi, too.

A trendy part of London, Camden (Town) makes for a great baby boy name. A celeb favourite (it has been used four times since 2012), Camden has entered the Top 100 for the first time.

While this name can be used for a boy or girl, we are loving it for a little lady. Located in North Carolina, the name has a sophisticated feel that means “meadow of roe deer”—another great outdoor name.

Most people immediately associate this name with the witch trials that accorded in the Massachusetts town of the same name, the name literally means “peace” (oh, the irony). We’d pick this as a boy’s name with the perfect amount of history.

The site of worship for the god Apollo, we think Delphi makes a wonderful unisex name choice. Add the connection to the Delphic Oracle and you have a beautifully mysterious name choice.
