Baby Names Inspired By Classic Rock Songs

From Lola to Eleanor — which names would you choose?

If you and your family are musically-inclined, it's reasonable to pay homage to your favourite songs through your child's baby name. (If, of course, the name is awesome.) Fortunately, most songs revolve around names that are classic (and class-y) — though if you're in the market for boys' names, you may find yourself naming your child after the rock stars themselves as opposed to their subject matter.

Though "David Bowie" should be a name for everyone.

1. Eleanor ("Eleanor Rigby," The Beatles)
No, you don't want your child to be lonely like Eleanor Rigby — but the name "Eleanor" is tradtionally Englis so it will age well over time. (Just like the song, you guys. Just like the song.)

2. Lola ("Lola," The Kinks)
And if she ends up hanging out at a club down in old Soho, make sure she's drinking water along with the champagne that tastes just like cherry cola.

3. Layla ("Layla," Eric Clapton)
Clearly the best part of "Layla" is the 45 minutes of piano at the end (kidding), but you can upstage even that by naming your daughter after the song Eric Clapton wrote for George Harrison's then-wife, Patty Boyd. Just make sure she never gets involved with somebody like Clapton. (It's a long story.)

4. Ziggy ("Ziggy Stardust," David Bowie)
A unique name that works for either a boy or a girl, you can make it a little more gender specific if you change it to "Major Tom."

5. Riley ("Baba O'Riley," The Who)
Another non-gender specific name, you can bet your baby will cherish this homage when they hit those teenage wasteland years.

6. Virginia ("Only the Good Die Young," Billie Joel)
It was a toss up between the tragically-titled Billie Joel song, or referencing "Hey Virginia" by Bill Amesbury. Billie Joel wins -- because Billie Joel always wins.

7. Lily ("Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts," Bob Dylan)
If "Rosemary" is a little too obvious of a Bob Dylan tribute, "Lily" (a great spring name as well) still pays tribute to the veteran rocker without going too over the top. Or without naming your child "The Hurricane."

8. Rhiannon ("Rhiannon," Fleetwood Mac)
Every baby girl should receive Stevie Nicks' blessing, and this is as close as most of us will ever get.

9. Rosalie ("Mobile Bay," Johnny Cash)
If naming your daughter "June" is out of the picture, you could go for an even less common name, "Rosalie." A name we're likely to hear more of since classic names are becoming increasingly popular.

10. Rio ("Rio," Duran Duran)
Her name could be "Rio," and she something-something (dance upon the?) sand. Or, you could make the name non-gender specific and make Rio a middle name suitable for a boy or a girl.
