Canada Takes A Page From Finland With New Baby Box Program
Remember those amazing baby boxes that every new mom is Finland receives before baby arrives? Full of all the things a new mom needs to welcome baby home? Well, those amazing boxes are making there way to all of us here in Canada. In 1949, Finland made baby boxes and sent them to every mother across the country. With great success over time, it is associated with Finland’s low infant mortality rate.
The wish for baby boxes was answered in 2015, when a government grant from the Alberta Health Services was used to put together Baby Box Canada. Distribution of Alberta’s boxes began in 2016.
The non-profit’s mission is, “to provide all mothers with a starter kit to ensure all children get an equal start in life.” Baby Box Canada is funded entirely through donations and sponsorships.
With the program well under way, baby boxes will soon be arriving to those in Ontario, with a new initiative called Baby Box Program Ontario.
The baby box will be a starter kit that will contain everything you need to care for your little one; think clothing, bedding and baby products like bottles, bids and much more.
With Baby Box Program Ontario, your box will be free of charge but you will need to register to recieve a box. Pre-registration is now available.
It can help to take a little bit off your plate by knowing that you have the necessary items, before your delivery. You won’t have to worry about buying those last minute items or making sure you have extras in your hospital bag.
