What To Expect With A Spring Pregnancy

The world is coming back to life, and you'll be carrying new life too... what should you expect?

Just as the world around you starts to come back to life, you find out you'll be carrying a very special life of your own this spring. But, having a spring pregnancy isn’t all butterflies and daffodils. As the temperature gets warmer and your baby bump starts to grow, here are a couple things to expect this upcoming season.

Pro: Great Maternity Fashion

The hottest accessory this season? Your growing baby bump. And we say flaunt it! Shed all those pesky winter layers and play with colours, prints and light fabrics for a stylish yet comfortable spring maternity look. BONUS: you don’t have to invest in a maternity winter coat.

Con: Allergy Season

Pollen, dust and mold. For allergy suffers, those are the first things that come to mind when they think of spring. If you are an expectant mama and allergy sufferer, try as best as you can to avoid your allergy triggers. If you're already taking medication for your allergies, talk to your doctor to make sure you can continue taking them. Same goes for over-the-counter medications. Antihistamines are usually considered safe to take during your pregnancy but it’s always a good idea to run it by your doctor first.

Pro: Outdoor Exercise

There’s no reason to stay inside this season! Take advantage of the nice weather and go out for a walk or a light jog. If you’re feeling a little adventurous try some outdoor prenatal yoga. And on those really warm days, consider taking your bathing suit and hitting the pool for a swim. Again, it’s doesn't hurt to run your exercise regiment by your doctor first.

Con: Overheating

Thanks to your hormones, you’ll be feeling a lot warmer than most – even during the springtime. Overheating early during your pregnancy can put your baby at risk, so it’s important to take it easy. Remember those super cute maternity outfits you're looking forward to wearing? Make sure you invest in some comfortable, breathable fabrics that will have you feeling light and fresh. Also always remember to stay hydrated. It’s not enough to drink water just to quench your thirst, you should be drinking six to eight glasses of water a day.

Pro: Fresh Fruit And Vegetables

If there was ever a good time to start the rainbow diet, it would be now. There is a huge selection of fruits and vegetables available this season. Indulge in juicy watermelons, peaches, strawberries, cherries and lots of green vegetables. Fruits and veggies are packed with essential vitamins which are important for your baby’s development. Remember the more colourful your diet is, the better!

Cons: Grooming... Down There

If you already think shaving and waxing is a pain, it’s about to get a whole lot harder. The bigger you get, the harder it’s going to be to shave your legs and clean up that bikini line. Waxing is considered safe during pregnancy put keep in mind it can be more painful because of the increased blood flow in that area. So consider yourself warned...

Pro: Vacation Time

The first few months of your pregnancy can be little rough. Luckily as we start heading into summer it’s a lot easier to take time off. It’s also a great opportunity to go on a romantic babymoon with your partner before the baby arrives.

Cons: All About The Mocktails

Unfortunately this season you’re going to have to resist the urge to crack open a beer or mix up your favourite margarita. Depending on what type of gal you are, this can be especially hard since this season usually calls for patios and backyard BBQs. Not to worry though, you can find lots of delicious mocktail recipes online that are almost as good as the real thing.

Pro: Skipping Flu Season

Although that doesn’t guarantee you won’t get sick. Sometimes flu season can last up until May, which is why you want to continue boost your immunity since it gets weaker when you’re pregnant. Get plenty of sleep, stay hydrated and wash your hands regularly.

So embrace the warmer weather, remember to stay hydrated and enjoy the springtime journey with your baby-to-be!
