Classic Holiday Movies

From the classics, like Rudolph, to some newer Christmas characters like Arthur Christmas, kids and adults alike will rediscover the joy of Christmas watching these holiday favourites

Christmas is a great time to cozy up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate and pop in a classic movie with the kids. According to new research from Netflix and Leger Marketing, watching movies is amongst the top five holiday traditions in Canada. So gather up your little ones and enjoy these holiday faves!

Polar Express

Polar Express

The classic Christmas book comes to life in this animated movie about a boy doubting the existence of Santa Claus. On Christmas Eve, he boards a magical train to the North Pole and receives a special gift from Santa himself. This movie will have both parents and children believing in magic this Christmas.

The Muppets Christmas Carol

For 20 years, the Muppets have been retelling the Dickens tale “A Christmas Carol,” with their own spin to it. With Michael Caine as Scrooge and Kermit the Frog ad Bob Cratchit, the kids will learn to be humble and giving, while watching this movie in anticipation of Santa Claus.

The Santa Clause

Tim Allen takes on the role of Santa when the real Claus falls off his roof and is bound by a contract to take his place. As he transforms into Santa Claus, beard, belly and all, he and his family start to believe in magic.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

Older kids will love this Christmas classic. We watch as everything that possibly could go wrong when the family gets together for Christmas, goes wrong. A fire in the kitchen and a squirrel in the tree will keep them laughing, while parents can appreciate Chevy Chase’s Christmas antics.

“Buddy the Elf, what’s your favourite colour?” Watch Buddy the Elf’s adventures in New York City as he tries to find his real father, after a childhood raised by elves in the North Pole.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

For over 50 years A Charlie Brown Christmas has been warming hearts. Charlie can’t figure out why he isn’t in the Christmas spirit, and so he joins the school play. He finds his Christmas spirit in a tiny, rejected Christmas tree.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Who Stole Christmas comes to life with Jim Carrey as the Grinch, and Taylor Momsen as Cindy Lou Who.  The Grinch’s antics are hilarious, and it’s hard to stop from singing along as all the Whos hold hands around the tree.

Frost the Snowman

When Frosty the Snowman is accidentally brought to life, he must weather a storm of adventures and the dastardly plans of an evil magician before he can find safety and happiness. The Christmas movie is a tradition, and has been aired on TV every year since 1969.

Rudolph the Red Nosed reindeer

Another classic, this movie has been around since 1964, and has been warming hearts ever since. Every kid at heart knows Santa’s reindeer by heart. So sing along with the kids and watch the story of Rudolph, the young reindeer with the bright red nose, who is shunned by his reindeer pals for being different.

Arthur Christmas

Answering the questions, “How does Santa get to every house in one night?” this movie follows the Claus family, as they and the elves work as a team to deliver every present. But it comes down to Arthur to deliver the last gift so no child is left out.
