Mommy Lit: Our Favourite Reads for Moms

Haven't read a book since your little one arrived? Here's some fun fiction to get you back in the reading game

It’s true, parents don’t usually have a lot of spare time on their hands. Moms spend so much time doing for others, they definitely earn the right to some quiet. If you’ve been out of the book reading loop for a while, it can be hard to know what to pick up first. Here is some of our favourite mommy lit to get you back in the relaxation game.

Knocked Up by Rebecca Eckler

If you’re currently expecting and have read more than your fair share of dry month-by-month pregnancy books you’re probably ready for a change. In this incredibly honest and often hilarious look at pregnancy, Canadian journalist and BabyPost blogger, Rebecca Eckler, recounts the unexpected conception of her daughter (on the night of her engagement party) and the nine months following.

I Don’t Know How She Does It by Allison Pearson

For moms who do it all and yet wonder how they get it all done, this book is a must read. The book follows Kate, a working mother of two who tries to navigate the ups and downs of having a family and a high-powered career.

Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner

In this novel author Weiner offers you a glimpse into the lives of four women leading very different lives, but with one thing in common – they’re all navigating new motherhood and figuring out how this new facet of their lives works into their current situations.

Bachelorette #1 by Jennifer O’Connell

This fun read follows Sarah, a wife, mother and journalist who is given the opportunity to pose as a contestant on a reality dating show to gather information and then report about her experiences. While Sarah goes into it of one mindset, she is soon drawn into the experience.

You’ll Never Nanny in this Town Again by Suzanne Hansen

If you’re looking for pure escapism then this juicy book is sure to do the trick. Author Hansen writes in detail about her often bizarre, often frustrating experiences as a nanny to the stars… and ‘yes’ she names names.
