Frugal March Break Fun For Moms With Toddlers

Keep boredom and restlessness at bay with these six perfect March Break ideas for toddlers

When you're on a budget, March break with small kiddos can feel like a long stretch. If you're anxiously awaiting the restlessness that will erupt in your toddler, fear not—we've got a few ideas for moms who want to make March break fun for themselves and their kids, on a dime. Here are 6 ideas you can add to your March break calendar to keep boredom and restlessness at bay.
Plan a staycation
Arguably the cheapest way to spend a March break, opting out of leaving town and declaring a staycation can be liberating. The key to a succesful (read—boredom-free) staycation is taking the time to plan. Since a truly relaxing staycation never involves doing nothing when kids are involved, come up with a complete list of things you want to accomplish on your staycation. Think of some goals you want to conquer, places you want to visit, things you want to see. Need some super fun staycation ideas? We've got lots.
Check out library programming
No matter where you live, chances are your local library branch has March break programming to keep a toddler busy for hours. From puppet shows to storytime to craft workshops, your library is a great source of free educational fun. And if your kids are even younger, you can still make good use of the library—babies are never too young to be read to or serenaded with lulaby CDs. Oftentimes, song and rhyme programs extend to the tiniest of patrons, too!
Get your zen on
What's better than stretching out the cabin fever, deep breathing and getting in a calm zone your little ones? Spring break is a great time to introduce your kids to yoga. Classes may range from pre-natal and post-natal, to mom and baby, to classes for toddlers and kids. Find a local yoga class that fits your kids' age and skill set and learn the magic of mindful movement. Or, find a yoga Youtube tutorial and do some living room yoga whenever it works for you.
Check out a cheap family film
Attention, cinephiles, head to your nearest Cineplex Odeon on Saturday mornings this March at 11:00 AM and take in a $2.99 family film matinee. This event runs all through Ontario at select theatres until April 4th. If you can't make it out, throw a movie marathon event in your home, including some spring-featuring classics (think: Snow White, The Wind in the Willows original movie, Alice in Wonderland, The Parent Trap, etc.).
Storytime at Chapters Indigo March Break headquarters
Chapters Indigo is hosting a week of free in-store events for kids starting daily at 11 AM on Monday, March 16. Bring your kid to the readers' haven and check out a morning of Dr. Suess stories and hoopla, Wimpy Kid jokes and read aloud, a make-and-take lego activity time, or a day of arts, crafts, science & laughs. Find out what's happening near you
Looking for more ways to keep toddlers entertained over the March break? We've got lots of activities and games for small children that can turn any day from zero to hero.
